We are happy to announce that BRISPO (Brussels Institute for Social and Population Studies) and BIRMM (Brussels Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Migration & Minorities) will host the IMISCOE 24th Annual Conference in Brussels, 6-9 July 2027.
IMISCOE is the largest interdisciplinary migration research network in Europe, with 71 institutes across the world. We're proud to bring this community to Brussels.
The 2027 conference theme is "United for Human Rights and Global Equity", bringing together academics, policymakers, and civil society actors from around the world to discuss migration, inequality, racism, and human rights.
Across many countries, borders are hardening and racialised inequalities are deepening - shaping who gets to move, who gets to stay, and whose rights are recognised. The 2027 IMISCOE Annual Conference confronts these dynamics head on.
The conference calls for critical, interdisciplinary work on how human rights are distributed, contested, and denied in a world shaped by racism, colonial legacies, capitalism, and unequal geopolitics. Migration is not just about movement - it's where processes of racialisation, exclusion, and belonging play out. We welcome contributions that examine how migration and racial regimes undermine the rights of migrants and their descendants.
The conference call is available here.
Welcome to Brussels!
