Silvia Erzeel

Biography

Silvia Erzeel is Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science. She teaches courses and conducts research on political representation, political parties, gender and intersectionality, and inequality. Her PhD thesis (2012, VUB) dealt with the political representation of women in national and regional parliaments in Europe. Her current research focuses on three main areas: the integration of gender equality in political parties and in conservative parties in particular, intersectionality and ethnic minority women’s pathways to power in Europe, and the consequences of economic inequality for representative democracy. Since 2018, she is co-convenor of the ECPR Standing Group on Gender and Politics.
