Movies That Matter: Film Screening Les Voyageurs
BIRMM and BRISPO warmly invite you to a special edition of our joint film series Movies that Matter on 11 March at LIC Theatre (Brussels). This edition will feature the screening of Les Voyageurs (2025) directed by David Bingong. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director David Bingong and filmmaker-researcher Irene Gutiérrez-Torres.
Movie description: On the border between Morocco and Spain, a group of migrants waits for the “boza” — the opportunity to cross into Europe. Through failed attempts, uncertainty, and endurance, the filmmaker — “the Artist” — documents collective survival with only a camera and a few songs. The film is both testimony and creative act, exploring hope, mobility, and resistance at Europe’s borders.
Les Voyageurs (The Travellers) is part of the research projects Reel Borders (VUB) and Institutional Documentary and Amateur Cinema in the Colonial Era (UC3M). The film has received wide international recognition, including the Jury Prize for Best Medium Length Film at Visions du Réel, the John Grierson Award for Best Documentary at the BFI London Film Festival, a Special Jury Mention at the Camden International Film Festival, and a Special Jury Mention at the Rizoma Film Festival.
The screening will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A with director David Bingong and Irene Gutiérrez-Torres. We look forward to welcoming you to this special edition of Movies That Matter, where cinema and research meet in critical dialogue.
