Marjolein Schepers

Biography

Marjolein Schepers studied history at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Leiden University. She obtained her Research Master degree in Migration History in December 2013 with a thesis on membership regimes concerning (post-) colonial immigrants, focussing on Congolese in Belgium (1945-1972). During her masters, she worked as an intern at KU Leuven, where she conducted explorative research on the institutionalisation of migrant integration in Flanders (1971-2004). She completed her teaching degree in history in 2014. Besides her studies, she worked at migrant social services in Rotterdam and as researcher at the migration policy department of the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice. As of January 2015, Marjolein works as a doctoral researcher at HOST and Ghent University (EED) under the supervision of Professor dr. Anne Winter and Professor dr. Thijs Lambrecht. Her PhD-project concerns rural-urban relations in migrant eligibility to welfare in the late eighteenth century. It centres on the ‘Concordat of Ypres', an agreement of Flemish cities and regions about the access of migrants to poor relief.
