Biography
Kristof Gombeer is an FWO fellow and PhD candidate at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Leiden University, working on maritime security, migration and human rights. He is completing a doctoral thesis concerning human rights jurisdiction at sea with a particular focus on EU (Member States) governance in the Mediterranean. He is a team-member of the VUB department of public law, the Europa Institute (Leiden Law School), and the Leiden-based project “Policing the high seas: maritime law-enforcement in a multi-actor environment”. Kristof is further engaged in the work of the ESIL Interest Group on Migration and Refugee Law. Kristof obtained an MSc in International Relations Theory at the London School of Economics and an LLM in International Legal Studies at New York University.
