
Johannes Thumfart
Biography
Johannes Thumfart works at the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) and is a member of the research group Law, Science, Technology, and Society (LSTS) at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He teaches Ethics of International Security Management at the Berlin School of Economics and Law. He is interested in the intersection of international law, intellectual history, political philosophy, STS, and security studies. He is author of the book "The Liberal Internet in the Postliberal Era" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2024), and he published his PhD thesis on the intellectual history of international law, titled "Die Begründung der globalpolitischen Philosophie" (Kadmos, 2012). He received his PhD and his MA from Humboldt Universität Berlin in Philosophy and History. His research has been published in the Journal of Global Security Studies, Global Studies Quarterly, Grotiana, The European Journal of International Security, and AI and Ethics.
