IMISCOE Annual Conference 2027 in Brussels: Call for Contributions Now Open
BIRMM and BRISPO are pleased to announce that the 24th IMISCOE Annual Conference will take place in Brussels and online from 6–9 July 2027. The conference will be hosted by the Brussels Institute for Social and Population Studies (BRISPO) and the Brussels Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Migration and Minorities (BIRMM) at Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
Under the theme “United for Human Rights and Global Equity,” the conference invites critical and interdisciplinary contributions on migration, racism, human rights, inequality, colonial legacies, capitalism, and geopolitical asymmetries. The conference will explore how migrants and minorities are included in, excluded from, or positioned within human rights frameworks, and how migration and racial regimes shape access to rights, recognition, and belonging.
Submissions are invited for individual papers, panels, and workshops. Contributions may be theoretical, empirical, or methodological and can focus on any geographical context. Proposals should critically engage with the changing conditions of human rights for migrants and their descendants worldwide, including both the limitations of existing frameworks and contemporary challenges to rights protections.
Conference dates: 6–9 July 2027 Location: Brussels and online Submission deadline: 28 September 2026, 23:59 CEST Organisers: BRISPO and BIRMM, Vrije Universiteit Brussel
More information about the call and submission guidelines is available on the IMISCOE website.
