On October 30 and 31, BIRMM will host the Europe expert consultation on the CERD-CMW joint General Recommendation/Comment on Public Policies for Addressing Xenophobia and its Impact on Human Rights.
This consultation will be carried out in connection with the development of a CMW-CERD joint general recommendation/comment on comprehensive public policies for addressing and eradicating xenophobia and its impact on the rights of migrants, their families and other non-nationals (or perceived as such) affected by racial and all intersecting grounds of discrimination. This important, joint initiative aims to adopt authoritative guidance directed to comprehensively address one of the more pressing challenges in a world where human mobility is structural, multidimensional phenomenon that is increasingly shaping societies and communities.
More than 50 experts will be present in-person and online to discuss the CMW-CERD joint general recommendation/comment. The consultation will be moderated by Pablo Ceriani Cernadas, Vice Chair of the Committee on Migrant Workers, and Ibrahima Guissé, Member of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The consultation is co-organized by the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (CMW), OHCHR Regional Office for Europe, Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), European Network Against Racism (ENAR), Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
