Jasmien Bougrine holds a master’s degree in Criminology (2018). She currently works as a PhD researcher at the Crime & Society research group (CRiS) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She is also member of the interdisciplinary research group Voicing Youth at Social Risk (VOIC) at the VUB. In her doctoral thesis she focuses on the connection between (social) media, identity formation and youth belonging to groups considered as minorities. In her master thesis she studied the self-narratives of girls in a sport for development project in Molenbeek (Brussels), using a combination of participatory observation, focus groups and visual methods. Her research interests include urban youth, voicing and empowering socially excluded groups, self-narratives and diversity.
